Our Mission
To identify, manage, and enroll a diverse and talented pool of graduate and doctoral students who demonstrate exceptional potential for academic achievement, research excellence, and leadership in support of national defense and global security.
We are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, fairness, and transparency in the admissions process while providing personalized guidance and support to applicants as they navigate the complexities of graduate education.
Academic Eligibility and Faculty Evaluation
The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) offers a wide variety of first-class graduate degree programs to eligible U.S. military students, international students, Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees, and a limited number of defense contractors. Please review our Prospective Students page for eligibility and general information before applying.
All applications are evaluated by NPS Admissions, but the final acceptance decision is determined by the appropriate department faculty. Some departments have additional application requirements, which are outlined in the Academic Catalog.
How To Apply
Applying to NPS is a straightforward process. Visit our Apply page for further details.
- Submit your application.
- Submit official transcripts.
- Submit other documentation if required.
- You are evaluated.
Academic Profile Code (APC)
Academic Profile Codes (APCs) for all U.S. Navy officers are calculated and reported by NPS Admissions. To have your APC calculated, you must complete a Resident application and have all official transcripts delivered to us. Once calculated, your APC will be displayed on your application under the Employer Information section. Once reported, the APC will be on block 47 of your Officer Data Card (ODC). Further details can be found under the APC section of the Apply page.
